It's one of those things that in the future I will die of laughter at the things I use to say to her about wetting her hair down. Like, "Zellie, please don't wet your hair down again." To which she responds, "When can I wet my hair down?" I will then say, "You can wet your hair down after your nap@!@?"
Are we really having this conversation?
She was overcome with giddy when she caught me and her little friend watching her.
Checking to make sure she is looking glam. She didn't know I was watching her and this was THE best part.
Now, I added to the whole hair process (for my pure entertainment) by purchasing at our local Family Thrift a 1990s copy of Beautiful Braids: An Illustrated Step-By-Step Guide. It is totally awesome. John says I do these things to make myself laugh. He is right. The joy we get out of this spiral bound paper back book is ridiculous, BUT to her it is nothing but serious.
Our Conversation this morning,
Zellie: "Mom, Where is my Braid book?"
Me: "I don't know. I will just pull your hair up with a bow."
Zellie: "I need the Braid book."
I guess we all have our different interests in life. Dominic likes Legos. Lillie and Rose like The American Girl's Club books, Vianney likes "Go Dog Go" and Zellie likes looking through the braid book. She usually selects her do for the day and brings it to me hoping with all her little heart I can produce her selected style for the day although most days it is pg.37 "The Sophisticate."
Don't get me wrong, the other girls thumb through the book several times a week. Rose always selects pg. 19 "New and Glamourous" with a special request of "please don't do the top (bangs) like hers. Okay, I will try hard not to do that. ha. ha.
Stop growing up now. I hope we get many years together of picking out your selected style.
I laughed when I saw the book....I HAD that book growing up!!! I didn't even know it still existed! HA!! :-) Cute pics. Can John and Dominic come over here some evening so I can go to your house and paint nails, do hair and giggle...
ReplyDeleteWow. Is anyone else having flashbacks to the characters of Growing Pains and Full House when you see that book?!
ReplyDeleteI love the hair wetting process. She's so serious about it. Too cute.
Lindsay, I laughed so hard when I saw that book! It reminds me of how my mom used to pull all of hair back in tight braids growing up..lol. Seriously though, you must just crack up when you watch her do her hair. It's so cute! I have a feeling I'll find Maeve doing something very similar as she gets older.
ReplyDeleteHi-lar-ious! That's totally what I needed to see/read tonight...it's been a rough day. Thanks for the laughs!!! --Anne L.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just a girl thing...Jacob (3 years old) has been known to be found in the bathroom wetting his hair.
ReplyDeleteAnd I had that book when I was younger, too! My sisters and I had long hair, but I don't think we ever really did any of the hair styles.
