We are Chinese, if you please

Our wonderful parish hosted its annual Parish Picnic this past Sunday. There was great food, fabulous music, and a darling Saint's parade. Last year, I was at my favorite thrift store and found 3 authentic Chinese outfits. I decided that the following year for Halloween we were going to be the Chinese martyrs. It was fun looking for costumes, props, and accessories all year. I actually painted their hair with black hair spray after having put their hair in a very tight bun. We also painted their eyes. It was a fun afternoon getting ready. The kids had fun picking out which martyr they wanted to be. Granted, I think some of them were Japanese names, but you get the point.

My friend, Janel, had extra silk fabric around her home and let me use it for any extra outfits or accessories I needed. I found an easy tutorial for rice hats or coolies. They didn't stay on very well so I should have made a little tie under the chin. Do you see the two foot tall Samaurai warrior on the end trying to intimidate?

Let me introduce them to you!
First Up,
St. Mary Fu Guilin

We called her "Mary Fu" all afternoon and oddly it seemed fitting for her personality. Extra spicy with a cherry on top.

St. Martha Wang Luo

St. Agatha Lin Zao

Zellie made us laugh the most. I am not quite sure what it was. Possibly the tightness of her bun? Possibly her hair looked so funny painted black?

St. Lucy Yi Zhenmei

The day before was the special feast day of St. Therese. Rose's full name is Rose Marie Therese so she has always been very fond of her patron saint.

St. Agnes Lin Zao

Participating in their favorite dance-The Chicken Dance

St. Augustine Zhao Rong

My favorite the whole evening!!! Tiny Therese.
This was Lillie's Pollyanna moment! There was a table filled with around 20 different prizes. Everybody entered their name in the raffle and Msgr. Nemec called out 20 different names to come pick a prize. What I would do to see her face again when they called her name! I said, "Lillie, you are just like Pollyanna winning her favorite doll." Now, don't go and fall out of a tall tree.
