Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

My favorite feast. My mom called early in the morning and said "Today is your favorite friend's feast." I have loved her since I was small. Even as a small child, I loved babies. So when I became aware of abortion, I came to know Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the unborn. We celebrate this feast BIG. We read her story, watch a video about Juan Diego, eat Mexican food, and this year we went to mass at our local Latino parish. I had noticed that the Bishop was the main celebrant so off we went at 7:00 PM. Cristo Rey Catholic Church was filled to the very brim.

Almost every child was dressed in traditional Mexican dress, like Juan Diego, or Our Lady of Guadalupe. We sat next to a tiny baby dressed as Juan Diego with a little straw hat and fake black braids attached. He was precious. We were the only non-hispanic peeps there besides the Bishop. Before mass began, hundreds of roses were brought to the front at put at Our Lady's feet.
The kids were mesmerized by the different cultural customs. Before mass ended, the church was filled tribal dancers who performed in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The drum was so loud, but they loved it. Afterwards, a fiesta was had in the gymnasium. I am so glad we went.

  1. Our Lady of Guadalupe is my favorite friend too! :) We were able to go to Mass on her feast for the first time in a few years ... I'm hoping to add traditions to our celebration of her day.
