First time at the Rink

Once a month, our homeschooling community rents out the roller rink. Since roller skating has become the thing around our home, we decided to take the whole family for a spin. Oh my. What have we been missing?
Memories of my childhood x 1000.  I remember hoping, praying, bleating for the roller rink to be open on the weekends.  My parents loved to take us.  John and I laugh about how we hoped the "cute" person at school was there.  Giggle.

Vianney had little trouble learning the ropes.  After a few falls at the beginning, she improved greatly by the end of the night.

John does the limbo in his work clothes.  Isn't he the best x 1000?  He called me multiple times throughout the day with eager excitement to roller skate.  He received He Man roller skates when he was little and had such fond memories of skating with his grandfather. I knew he was excited to go when he didn't even change his work clothes after he got home from work so we could just hop in the car.  cute x 1000.

See that smile.

Ever-Cautious Dominic.  He wasn't too sure at first, but a couple of his friends so sweetly helped him learn.  At one point, I saw one of his buddies, Kevin, holding onto his arm trying to help him around the rink.  I thought it was sweet that they were unaware that they were holding onto each other's arm in public.

Of course, Rose needed no adjustment.  Skates on and Go.  That is all she needed to understand the whole scenario.  She went around and around one million times.  I never saw her fall.

Lillie picked it up quickly too.  She took a few nasty falls, but did awesome.

Last but certainly not least, Social butterfly Zellie.  Zellie is the perfect 1980s girl.  She loves big hair, bubblegum and gabbing with friends.

  1. This made my day! I too remember those few birthday parties I was allowed to go to at the roller rink. I remember skating for 4 hrs straight, without stopping, and the next day being so sore, I could barely get out of bed. =)
    What memories you guys made!
I'm just throwing homemade cinnamon rolls in for their first rising...wish we were close enough to bring some over to share. Though I'm sure they're not quite like Dominic's...OR your momma's. ;)
    God Bless you all!
    Have a super Thursday!

    1. Hello. We are a part of three different homeschooling groups where we live. One of the groups is with my fellow Catholics. They do plan such fun events. I love it all.

  5. This is so great! John's smile does capture it all. I think I went roller skating every weekend in 7th grade. All of us kids would trade off having "skating parties" and it was THE place to be. This post was a great reminder of that fun.

    1. They don't obey on that part. I tell them to stop growing all the time and hush people that tell me my kids are getting big.

  8. That looks so fun! I remember homeschool skate days, once a month when I was a kid. I used to ride with some friends when I was the only child in my family old enough to skate. It must have been like 18 kids on each others' laps in their van, and the anticipation was intense. We skated all afternoon and ate PBJ sandwiches. It was wonderful. This will someday be one of those "remember when?" moments your kids talk about fondly when they're older.

  9. So fun! Isaac was just asking me if he could go roller-skating…I have no idea where he got the idea because we haven’t done something like that with them…ever. I think it’s time to try!

  11. Greetings! Quick question that's entirely off topic.

Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from
my iphone4. I'm trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this problem.
If you have any recommendations, please share.
    Many thanks!
