We've developed a habit once in the car to look at each other and say, "They are going to remember this." John and I both have vivid childhood memories most of them involving summer nights, running with friends, and our parents talking with their friends.
A couple friends of ours, Phil Cunningham and Andy Willis, hosted a backyard concert for several families this evening. The minute we pulled up to the house, our kids were already pointing, smiling, and planning what fun was to be had in the evening.
Damaris ran free. Clairvaux had multiple cookies and popcorn cups. Vianney followed her lead. The older four ran sweaty and red-cheeked for three hours. Dominic and Thomas Casady sat at their piano together a portion of the evening figuring out how to play "Concerning Hobbits" from The Lord of the Rings. John and I smiled at each other knowing they were having "one of those summer nights."
